There’s a lot of things that I could compare English singer John Alone’s new single ‘Neverland’ to (Frank Ocean is the most obvious influence), but the artistry evident in this brief but euphoric single makes it more than obvious that; not only a singer but also as a songwriter and producer; the Nigerian-born R&B crooner has a whole lot of unique talent up his sleeve. The production is very minimal, composed of light, subtle synths that dance in the background behind the singer’s warm, passionate vocals. The lyrics are elated-sounding, yet lost in a vortex of emotion that threatens to consume the fragility of Alone’s vocals. Like his chosen last name, this song conveys the feeling of isolation in a way that evokes neo-soul in an incredibly effective manner.
