A deranged, Nephew-produced stagger through unadulterated hedonism, ‘SOUTHBOUND’ is undoubtedly one of SToNE’s finest hours to date. The song is murky and demented, but the rapper’s vocals are clearer than they have been in the past. There’s a greater focus on building songs not only with more distinct hooks and verses but also semi-narrative lyricism. If any of his tracks encapsulate the artist’s blend of Memphis terror and cloudy joy, its the stoic yet goofy sound of ‘SOUTHBOUND’. If SToNE hones in on this elevated level of songwriting, his next few drops will be something truly special.
