His second collaboration with former BMB producer KRXXK, ‘Reign’ is also one of Remi’s fiercest singles to date.
At almost three minutes long, ‘Reign’ is one of the rapper’s most fleshed-out creations. While a good portion of the song is dedicated to ad libbing over the evil cyber-trap instrumental, at least two minutes see the English MC pile driving his flows into the listeners’ ears. ‘Power’ was a serious anthem, but ‘Reign’ surpasses it thanks to a combination of pleasing hookwork and even crisper vocal mixing. The usual lyrical themes appear here: Remi has proven himself to be a better rapper than his competitors and he once again celebrates that. However, despite containing another lyrical callout, this is far more than a diss song. I’d happily go on record and say this is one of the catchiest tracks that he’s ever released, it certainly helps that his voice is so upfront in the mix this time round.
If you’ve enjoyed Remi’s past endeavours, then this will serve primarily as a reminder that he’s one of the best to ever do it. If not, I hope that this is as thrilling an introduction as ‘Akira’ was for me.
Listen to ‘Reign’ here.
