Another of 2020’s much needed crossovers, ‘Wait!’ is one of Uglyboy’s most exhilarating songs to date. With Neilaworld rapper Ericdoa in tow, the Hurenpop artist reminds his fans that he’s an incredible vocal talent.
Working over one of Eric’s beats, the duo take turns in applying their smooth vocals to the pounding instrumental. Eric’s hook is huge and bombastic, his singing as enchanting as ever and hitting all the right spots to create some truly lovely melodies. Uglyboy’s work on the verses is more glitchy and understated, although his voice sounds no less incredible. There’s a huskiness to his voice when he sings passionately of an ex-lover: ‘And you’re saying that you miss me, I thought you lost my number when you say you wish you killed me’ that really caught me off guard. Ugly proved that he could write an impassioned track many times over on his first full length release Anesthetics/Aphrodisiacs, but the level of intensity in his performance here is really admirable.
While Eric’s vocals and production here are likely to account for a large number of this song’s views, it is undeniable that Uglyboy is on his way to becoming an artist of similar stature in the community. If this song isn’t proof enough of that, I implore that you check out the rest of his work as he is absolutely an artist to watch in 2021.
