A morose Valentine’s Day banger, ‘Bonnie & Clyde’ is Wave Noir’s dramatic return after a nine month absence from the music game. Employing the vocal talents of past collaborator John Alone on its hook, the track is a welcome burst of serotonin that many of us need at this time of the year.
‘Please let me into your life. Hey Bonnie, I’ll be your Clyde’. As soon as that hook hits, the track’s snappy yet cloudy instrumental lurches to life. Neither Wave nor John are strangers to R&B/Hip-Hop fusion, and here their vocal chemistry proves it. The rap verse provided by Wave is short but sweet, detailing a passionate relationship akin to that of the titular Bonnie & Clyde. ‘Only got two priorities in my damn life: chasing that bag, looking after my damn wife’ is the standout lyric from this romantic ode, although ‘Only feeling blessed when she’s by my side, rather choose death than to never ride’ comes close. The song’s lovesick lyricism and immaculately melodic production make this one hell of a comeback, it’s perfect for an early morning wake up in the aftermath of the year’s most romantic day. Wave’s diversity is on full display here, and I don’t doubt that he has plenty of other amazing material on the way. Hopefully, this is just the beginning of an amazing 2021 for him.
