baewxlff’s latest single is an excellent showcase of the artists’ lyrical ability and production prowess
Baewxlff is a rapper and producer from Tampa, FL that has recently dropped a self-produced single by the name of “rain”. A fair portion of his back catalogue shares the alternative boom-bap influences present throughout this song, although ‘rain’ is among one of the better endeavors, featuring a downtempo jazz-influenced piano line as the dominant (and sole) melody throughout the track. This is accompanied by a groovy drum line that loops through the verse sections of the song, composed of chilling percs soaked in reverb and low-key kick patterns driving the rhythm of the track.
The song begins with themes of self-reflection and nostalgia as soon as Baewxlff makes his entrance, dizzying rhyme schemes and mind-blowing flows littered throughout, followed by Baewxlff’s reflections on his environment both in childhood and the present. His cadence throughout the track accentuates the beat perfectly, and Baewxlff’s ability to ride a beat in varying, impressive manners within a single verse is unparalleled. ‘Rain’ was produced, mixed, mastered, and written by Baewxlff (recalling the spirit of analog production as the beat was crafted solely on a MPC2000XL).
I am excited to see the growth and continued output from Baewxlff in the future, and found this track to feel extremely unique and well-crafted in terms of production and actual rapping ability amongst the pool of many, many peers who also dabble in this subgenre. I believe this will be of assistance in growing in an already oversaturated underground scene, no doubt on account of the independent talent Baewxlff regularly displays.
