Chances are you’ve been paying attention to Raegun, as her magnetic endeavours have amassed a cult following in the past year. Her latest release, ‘fed up!’, is no different as she blesses listeners with a perfect end-of-summer sound that personifies putting your heart out on your sleeve. I’ve been mutuals with Raegun for a while, and I’ve been eager to see her next creation take shape in an ever-changing community. This progression of sound from the somber and tranquil feel of Cherry Blossom Blooms to lighthearted dance-pop has been quite interesting to watch, and this likely isn’t a stopping point for her sound.
Producers ria and bbjb come together to create playful piano keys that intertwine perfectly with a darker glimpse into fragility and unrequited love. The words are written neatly below the track, although I doubt you’ll need them after having the upbeat, jazzy production and charismatic delivery of the song float around your head for hours on end. Unfeigned proclamations of “tryna show you every night that I am the one” clash with the hastening hook: “I’m so fed up right now” and “ain’t no trick stopping me now” as she seems to throw all hopes of reconciliation out of the window. Her confidence in herself never fades, however, as her addictively syrupy cadences and flows go on to prove. The mixing and mastering work effortlessly with the track, blending delicate production with sharp, electrifying vocals.
Raegun continuously pushes the boundaries for her current sound, and never fails to disappoint. I have no doubt that she will continue to inspire those around her with her unique sound and impressive ability to share something so intimate and personal in such a meaningful way.
