Christian Blair is pretty mysterious, existing in a small pocket of the internet. His voice is powerfully sincere, and his calming work effortlessly breaks the constraints of staying in a single genre.
I discovered Blair’s music through an internet friend-of-a-friend, the way I find most of what I’ve been listening to recently. His voice is charmingly faint, existing in a dream-like state and reshaping into something new with each passing moment. There are three singles on his Spotify with promises of future releases scattered across his social media. In the meantime, I’ve had standout single “haunted” with nrxthstar on steady repeat. It’s an acoustic ballad, decorated with wholesome lines that display Blair’s ability to express total vulnerability.
“something new” is more hopeful, exuding a sense of tenderness and longing. The acoustics here are playfully whimsical and upbeat. His words are a bit fuzzy, adding a sense of haziness into the world he’s creating. “4u” is one of his earlier releases, incorporating the perfect proportions of emo-rap, pop, and hyperpop. It’s a change of pace from his other singles in which his effortless creativity in various mediums shines through.
I can’t go on without mentioning his collaborations with starfall, Kaido, and Noahh. They occupy similar circles in the online scene, and I’ve enjoyed every song they’ve created together. One of my favorites at the moment is “Set” from the “Dissociation” EP. I instantly recognized the instrumental as a signature Michael Warren beat, working perfectly for this trio. Starfall provides smooth pop vocals that blend effortlessly with the raspier voices of Kaido and Blair. It’s such a beautiful track, and each artist is given equal chance to shine. I can’t recommend their songs enough, and I’m very excited for what the future holds for them.
